Hiatus, kind of

Hi Y’all, In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m kind of taking a break from writing. There are some things going on around me that need some TLC and not to be written about, so I’m taking a break. Life is good at Casa Grania, no worries here. The holidays were excellent too.  Thanks for askin’. [...]

Meaningful vs. Perfect

I love the holidays. The lights, the trees, the food, the music, the parties, family and friends, and when it’s over, I love that too, because I have enough warm memories to get me through the next couple of months of brutal arctic Chicago winters. I can’t even imagine trying to do Christmas the way [...]

Meine Familie, Mia Famiglia, My Family

I have a large extended family. Lots of cousins, and their families. A few of us that are close are all from my mom’s side of the family. I try to make a date with one of them every few months, just so we don’t grow apart as we get older.  I spent the afternoon with my oldest [...]

My rings

I’m taking a writing prompt off of the NaBlo site for this one: Tell us the story of a piece of jewelry you own. Where did it come from, and what does it mean to you? I wear three rings that each have a story.  #1. I created a set of matching rings for minime and [...]

simplifying

This is the first weekend that I’ve stayed home in a long time. I didn’t go out at all. I’m fairly broke, so no shopping until my next paycheck, and my walking partner had other plans, so I got to exercise my inner hermit and just stay in. The weather cooperated, the chill of autumn [...]

I’m still here

In the last couple of weeks, I have Attended an awesome family party. My aunt and uncle celebrated their 60th anniversary last week. Many cousins came in from all over the country. It was so cool to see everyone. There’s so much love in our family, it’s really uplifting when everyone is in the same [...]

busy busy

This week at work, my department is changing locations within the building.  I’m one of three people on the team that are not tied to the phones so I moved my stuff today.  They are moving the phone jockeys in shifts so that the phones are covered. I’m thankful that I’m already moved but it was [...]

Walking walking…

How many of you remember that silly kids song to the tune of Are you Sleeping: walking walking, walking walking, hop hop hop, hop hop hop. running running running, running running running, now we stop. You can thank me for the brain worm later I went for a walk through my neighborhood this morning. I [...]

Reflections on my Dad

It’s 2am on Father’s Day. I woke up in an/anesthesia induced sweat bath. I had a lot of it in 7 hours of surgery 11 days ago. I’ll be sweating it out for a couple more weeks if history repeats itself.  They say it takes a full year for the liver to process all of the [...]

I’m alive :)

…just not moving so fast right now. The surgery was successful. My kidney will no longer kill me. YAY!  The hernia repairs are pretty harsh. They’ll heal eventually though.  I’ve been home for 2 days now. The pain that I expected is about 1/4 of what I have. It hurts a lot more than I [...]
